The German Leather Museum is one of the largest museums of the world with a wide variety of collection of leather items, including some exhibits, which are believed to more than 3,000 years old. The museum has three wings, namely, the German Shoe Museum, the Museum for Applied Art and the Ethnology Museum. The museum has a number of leather items on display including shoes, saddles, bookcases, photo albums, leather furniture, and toys.
The German leather industry has introduced a new style of leather, a scratch resistant variety which is vegetable dyed leather treated with a secret patented chemical which renders the leather more difficult to cut and scrape.
